a closer look
The Begonia Maculata, or “Angel Wing Begonias” are a unique and highly sought after indoor plant that can be rare to come by. With metallic silver dots that look as if they are hand painted, and the contrasting deep maroon underside of the leaves, these plants are loved by all plant enthusiasts. These plants require a bit more specific care to thrive. They require a lot of bright indirect sunlight (avoid areas with direct harsh light). They require frequent watering and prefer soil that is always moist but never soggy. Water your begonia frequently as soon as the surface soil has dried.
High levels of humidity are needed to keep the thin leaves of this tropical plant healthy. Use pebble trays, humidifiers, and grouping with other tropical plants in your home to keep the humidity high. Avoid wetting the leaves as this may lead to bacterial leaf spotting. Protip: Prune your begonia at least twice a year to encourage new full growth and to take advantage of the easy propagation process. Simply cut off a top section of your plant with at least a few nodes, and place in a glass of water with rooting hormones until roots begin to form, repotting into fresh soil once roots have formed.
