More Info
The Schefflera Janine or ‘dwarf umbrella plant’ is a popular house plant for its ease of care and evergreen appearance. It gets its name from the arrangement of its distinct oblong green leaves and, for this variety, its smaller stature. This plant enjoys a bright room but shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight or it may cause burns on the leaves. The dwarf umbrella enjoys humidity and may benefit from a tray of wet pebbles being placed beneath its pot and spray for the leaves. This leafy tree will withstand dryness better than overwatering. When the top few inches of the soil are dry your plant is ready to be watered; just make sure that all the water drains out, the umbrella plant does not like to be soggy. And the plant will tell you if it needs more water by drooping leaves that may appear a little wrinkly. Should the leaves turn yellow and drop that may be an indication that you are overwatering. An additional element of care your umbrella plant will appreciate is pruning especially during the growing months. Pruning will allow you to guide the shape and removing the leggy stems to encourage a more lush, dense plant.
